Azkals arrive today
It’s Negros Occidental’s turn to host, once again, the Philippine Men’s Football Team Azkals and the squad arrives today for a weeklong camp and a series of friendly games at the Panaad Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Headed by coach Hans Michael Weiss, the team will arrive at the Bacolod-Silay Airport on board the 9:45 a.m.,Philippine Airlines flight from Manila. Tomorrow, they are scheduled to play against the all-Korean Team from the Central Philippine University and will face PFF-Smart Club Championships titlist Global-Teknika on Sunday, and against the PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup champion Ceres-Negros Team on September 13.
The friendlies will be open to the public for free.
While the friendly games will help prepare the Azkalas for the four-nation Long Teng Cup set in Taiwan later this month, the national team headed for Bacolod City to scout for new players.
Among those who were invited to join the tryouts at the Panaad are Ceres-Negros Team’s strikers Fil-Am Joshua Beloya and Aldrin Dolino, and midfielder Jovin Bedic.
The three players will be joining their teammates during the September 13 match between the Azkals and the Ceres – Negros Team with coach Norman Fegidero as mentor for the locals.
Earlier, Negrense defender Lemuel Unabia and midfielder Jake Morallo joined the Azkals camp in Manila.
Meanwhile, among those expected to join the camp in Bacolod are Aly Borromeo, Emilio ‘Chieffy’ Caligdong; James and Phil Younghusand, Angel Guirado, Ian Araneta; Jason de Jong, Simon Greatwich, Manny Ott, Misagh Bahadoran, Nate Burkey and Yannick Tuason, Ray Anthony Jonsson, Anton del Rosario, Jason Sabio and David Basa and reserve keepers Paolo Pascual and Christopher Camcam.*NAB
