Pachanga FC plays Ceres Selection
THE success of the regular 9-a-side football tournaments bankrolled by the Yanson brothers and played at the Ayala North Point pitch in Talisay City has gained the respect of Manila-based football squads.
These squads are seeing action in the county’s biggest commercial football league, the United Football League (UFL). Among the top teams in this league are Kaya Futbol Club, Global Smartmatic, Air Force Rider and Army Fritz Macziol IBM, the mother clubs of several members of the Philippine Men’s Football Team-Azkals.
At present, the ongoing regular league being played at the Ayala North Point pitch is the 2011 Negros Leo and Pia Yanson (LPY) 9-A-Side Football Tournament.
Meanwhile, tournament commissioner Ramon Janeo yesterday told SUN.STAR-Bacolod that as the UFL 2011-2012 Season will soon open, the Pachanga Football Club, one of the league’s newest member-club, will play a goodwill game against the home-team, Ceres Selection, of Leo Rey Yanson.
This goodwill match, set on Saturday, August 6 at 4pm at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan here in Bacolod City, is part of Pachangas’ preparation for the upcoming UFL tournament.
Janeo said that Pachanga FC will be led by its chairman Freedy Razon Gonzalez. However, the final team rosters of both squads are yet to finalize, he added.
“This is a great opportunity for football fanatics in the province as well as in Bacolod to witness top caliber games featuring our home team Ceres and the visiting squad from UFL,” Janeo stressed.
Pachanga FC is also one of the eight teams vying for the title of the first Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Smart Clubs Championships scheduled August 9-13.
Among these teams are Bagiuo, Davao, Iligan, Iloilo, Leyte, Rizal and Technika FC representing the National Capital Region.
Pachanga will be joining the bracket composed of Davao, Iloilo and Bagiuo for the simultaneously played games in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo and the CPU Football grounds. (Jerome s. Galunan Jr.)
