REELING off high from the success of the recent Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan Football Cup, another football tournament is set to usher in Baguio’s charter day.
As part of the founding celebration, Baguio, through Councilor Elmer Datuin, in cooperation with the Baguio United Football Club, Inc. and the City Sports Office, will hold the Baguio Charter Day Football Tournament.
It will be a one-day seven-a-side football tournament featuring six age groups and the men’s and ladies’ open at the Melvin Jones Football Grounds.
Seeing action in the age group divisions are the 10 under, 12 under, 14 under, 16 under, 19 under and the 23 under.
Registration fee is P500 for the men’s and ladies’ open, while the age group divisions will be at P200.
Aside from the one-day tournament, a football festival and training for 6 and 8 under will also commence on the same day for the grass roots development program being pushed by Fifa, which is not tournament-oriented but development-oriented.
Under the new approach, systems will be implemented where kids will register and will be assigned to teams. Afterwards, they will be ushered to different stations in the training system where they will be coached and mentored on every aspect of their game and skills.
Following the different training systems, kids will be brought to a tournament station where they will apply the coaching they received from the different training systems.
This grassroots program under Fifa is also aimed to develop the interest of the children in playing football and to strengthen the base of the grassroots, particularly in football.
Interested teams or players may send e-mail to baguiounited@gmail.com for invitation, questions and entries. (Roderick Osis)
