Philippine booters rout Sweden, 4-0 in World Cup Pilipinas
THE Philippine Navy football squad, started its title-retention bid on a bright note by thrashing Sweden, 4-0, in the opening day of the 2nd World Cup Pilipinas football tournament at the Luneta field in Manila.
Relying on superb defense, the Navy booters earned the most number of goal attempts all-throughout the 90-minute match en route to an unanswered four goals.
The Philippines, with a 1-0 slate, will play again next week. Korea meets Sudan today at 10 a.m. in the first game while Indonesia collides against India at 4:00 p.m.
During the opening ceremony, Luneta Park executive director Juliet Villegas, Brazilian Deputy Chief of Mission Tiago Silva Almeida and Brazilian Vice Consul Adilson Simões were all in attendance.
Organized by TJ Besa, the event is supported by the National Parks Development Committee of the Department of Tourism and the Sunken Garden United Football Club of the University of the Philippines Diliman.
The Philippines will be competing against football teams from Sweden, Mexico, Korea, Indonesia, Sudan, India, and Germany.
