YOUNG and aspiring female booters across the country are expected to flock at the Panaad Park and Stadium today in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City as the Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. Girls’ U-14 National Selection Tournament kicks off at 1:30 p.m.
Gov. Marañon is expected to grace today’s hostilities.
This event that will run from April 11 to 15, 2011 will feature teams from Manila and Luzon areas represented by the Rizal Football Association (RIFA) while Davao FA will banner Mindanao’s campaign. Meanwhile, the Visayas region will have Cebu Football Association as Negros Occidental will have the San Carlos City Football Club (FC) and the Negros First squad.
The Negros team selection is composed of 22 players from Rizal Elementary School, E. Jayme Elementary School, Bacolod City National High School, Negros Occidental High School, Sum-ag National High School, Venture Christian Academy, Domingo Lacson National High School, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, St. Scholastica’s Academy, St. John’s Institute, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Talisay and Colegio de Sto. Tomas-Recoletos.
Head coach Carlo Torbela and assistant coach Luis William Claour are tasked to direct the squad.
Meanwhile, RIFA and San Carlos City FC will draw first blood right after the opening ceremony followed by the Negros First-Davao FA duel.
The organizers disclosed that, aside from eyeing to hold this annual selection procedure in the province, this will also allow the national coaches to scout for competitive players to represent the country in the upcoming Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-14 Girls Festival of Football scheduled June 8-15, 2011 in Vietnam.
This will be the second year that the Philippines will be sending its team to compete in this 13-nation scrimmage, the organizer added.JSG
