THE CEBU 19-Under Men’s squad had an unlucky debut match in the Philippine Football Federation Men’s National U19 Championship Visayas Qualifiers as it dropped a 1-2 loss to home team Bacolod City at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
At first, both teams were evenly matched, but Cebu’s goalkeeper Henry Perales was pulled out of the match after suffering a head injury in the second half that led to scoring opportunities for Bacolod City. Perales suffered a gash in the head after an oncoming Bacolod player’s teeth sank in his forehead that forced him to be substituted by reserve goalie Romeo Du.
“The match was even, but we gave up goals after our goalkeeper was injured,” Cebu 19-Under Men’s coach Eleazar Toledo told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
After Perales was substituted, Bacolod City rallied two goals late in the second half.
The Cebuanos were able to retaliate with a goal by striker Moli Neri in the 88th
minute. However, it was a bit too late as Cebu wasn’t able to hit the net in injury to salvage a draw.
“The game was 50-50. Both teams had equal possession. It just so happened that the
second goalkeeper lacked the confidence,” said Toledo.
The Cebuanos will be playing against Dumaguete this afternoon.
Toledo said Perales will be able to see action today because his injury wasn’t serious, but he had to have anti-tetanus shots on the gash on his forehead.
