MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-British goalie Neil Etheridge has confirmed that he will be joining his team, the Philippine Azkals, when they face Mongolia in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup this February.
Etheridge, who is part of the Azkals team that made it to the 2010 Suzuki Cup semifinals, said he was granted permission by the English premier league club, Fulham, to again play for the Philippine team.
“I can now officially say I will attend the AFC Challenge Cup in February! Fulham have granted permission and I am flying out weekend before!” the Fil-Brit said in his Twitter account.
The 6’3” goalie was one of the vital cogs in the Philippine team’s campaign during the recent Suzuki Cup.
After the tournament that saw the Azkals defeating Southeast Asian football heavyweights Singapore and Vietnam, Etheridge flew back to the United Kingdom to rejoin the Fulham Club.
Etheridge is the first British-Filipino included in the English premier league.
He is the reserve goalkeeper of Fulham Club that has millions of fans all over the world
