National football women's selection tourney set

THE Executive Village Football Club, in cooperation with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), will host the staging of the 2010 National Women's Selection Tournament in Bacolod City.
The event will be held on April 24-28 at the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park pitch in Barangay Mansilingan.
Organizers announced this Wednesday during a luncheon press conference held at Luxur’s Place. Attending the conference were EVFC president Junie Lizares, coaches Warren Concepcion (U18) and Jose Raymando Baldava (U13), and Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) referees committee head Dennis Estaniel.
Also present were U18 Negros team skipper Charmaine Guancia and U13 Negros team captain Isa Carmona, daughter of former RP team standout John Carmona.
The objective of the tournament is to select members of the national U18 and U14 teams that will carry the country’s colors in two forthcoming international events, namely, the U14 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Festival of Football in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in June, and the AFC U18 qualifying event scheduled in October at a still to be identified venue.
Lizares also announced that the two other tournament officials who will be involved in running this event are Match Commissioner Joseph Gensaya and General Coordinator Gus Rivas.
The 22-member Negros 13 Under squad is composed of 9 players from San Carlos City, 7-8 players from Talisay City and 4 others from the Rizal Elementary School in Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, the 18 Under Negros team is composed of 3 players from University of St. La Salle, 4 from St. Scholastica’s Academy, 3 from Victorias City and the rest from San Carlos City.
A total of 28 13 under and another 30 18 Under club teams participated in the two-weekend tryouts conducted by the EVFC to select the members of the Negros Occidental squad in this tournament.
Six teams in both categories are seeing action in the national selection tournament, namely, Manila, Davao, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Iloilo and host Negros Occidental.
