Men's open division leader Doraemon solidified its hold of the top spot with three wins after edging University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), 2-1, yesterday in the ongoing 10th National Interclub Football Cup at the University of San Carlos Technological Center (USC-TC).
Doraemon's Joshua Fegidero showed the stuff of an ex-RP Team member by breaking through USJR's defense and scoring just 20 seconds into the game.
The Josenians tied the score at 1-all from Adrian Mejaran’s goal in the 54th minute.
However, Doraemon sneaked another goal in the dying minutes of the match to hand USJR its first loss of the tournament. USJR hopes to bounce back today against Queen City United (QCU), which is currently in 2nd spot.
In the other men's open match, FCIC posted a 4-2 victory over USC whose defender Patrick Uno suffered a broken nose when he collided with team goalie Clarence Su.
FCIC first found the back of the net via a goal by Richard Romero in the 34th minute. Jano Flores added two in the second half while teammate Toto Gimpisao contributed one for FCIC’s easy win.
USC's two goals were all by Prince Antony in the 50th and 52nd-minute mark.
Antony was part of the Central Visayas secondary football team which brought home a silver medal in the recentl 53rd Palarong Pambansa in Tarlac.
FCIC will face Doraemon in their final elimination match today while USC bowed out of the competition like Count FC.
