AFTER a bad start in the Regional Festival of Football, the Cebu Elite Under-14 squad is getting better every game as it edged out football powerhouse Iloilo, 2-1, yesterday in San Carlos City.
The Cebuanos are now in the semifinals and was set to face the host San Carlos City at press time. The other semis is between Iloilo and Dumaguete.
The winners of both matches will face off for the title this afternoon.
Iloilo started out strong and scored the first goal, however, JR Dakay tied the game after redirecting a cross.
Koko Gauduiel then sealed the game with a strike just in the nick of time.
Cebu City dropped its first game of the tournament, 2-1, to Dumaguete. However the Cebuanos bounced back with a 4-2 rout over San Carlos City.
“The team has shown huge improvements. In the first game they were very erratic, they weren’t used to the pitch and they were also very excited,” Cebu Elite Under-14 coach Oliver Colina told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
“They have already adjusted in their second game and now they had a very good showing. If they continue to communicate and work as a team and follow my instructions, then maybe we a have a chance of winning this,” he added.
After the championship matches, there will be an exhibition match between the coaches and best players of the Under-14 tournament, which will be mentored by Colina.
