THE CEBU Elite Team U-14 may have lost their first game against Negros Oriental Football Association (NORFA) of Dumaguete City but redeemed themselves after they routed San Carlos City yesterday in the Regional Festival of Football in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
In their first game, Cebu lost to Dumaguete, 2-1. Dumaguete set the pace of the game with a goal in the fifth minute.
Not to be outdone, Cebu answered with a goal of its own two minutes later courtesy of Mark Joseph Arranguez.
However, it proved to be Cebu's only goal of the match after it failed to equalize when Dumaguete found the back of the net in the 18th minute of the match.
Cebu coach Oliver Colina said it was to be expected because his boys were still feeling their way and adjusting to the field in San Carlos City.
He also said that his boys must have been both excited and nervous in their first game, although he still commended them for a good performance.
In their second game in the afternoon, Cebu came back with vengeance, beating host team San Carlos City, 4-2.
Cebu waxed hot with Aranguez once again leading the charge by scoring just five minutes into the match.
San Carlos answered with a goal of their own two minutes later.
Both teams continued to exchange leads after Cebu scored its second goal through Koko Gaudiel in the 20th minute. San Carlos answered with its second goal a minute later.
Cebu became white hot in the second half with its third goal in the 27th minute kicked in by Marlon Ewayan.
Gaudiel further stretched Cebu's lead with his second goal in the 50th minute.
Dumaguete currently tops the scoreboard with two wins after beating Cebu and Iloilo, who share second place standings with one win and one loss each. San Carlos has no wins so far.
The matches will continue tomorrow with Cebu facing Iloilo at 7 a.m. to determine their opponent in the semifinals.
