DOMINGO Lacson National High School (DLNHS) football team won the title during the championship match in the just-concluded 2nd Jo Tankers Philippines, Inc. 9-aside Invitational Football Festival at JBLCF-Bacolod football pitch.
DLNHS escaped Negros United Football Club (NUFC)-La Carlota City, 3-2 in a shootout.
Both squads battled to earn a goal in a 30-minute game but made nothing at the buzzer.
In the shootout, Anthony Villarin, the eventual best goalkeeper, saved NUFC’s first, fourth and fifth strokes to tie the score at 2-all and hoping to end the game with the final kick on their side.
However, they failed their last try ending the shootout at two apiece.
In the one-on-one Villarin hit a goal for DLNHS for a 3-2 advantage while counterpart from NUFC failed to nail a score.
Awarded as the Most Valuable Player was DLNHS’ Leopoldo Aragon while, teammate Marvin Guising was named as the Best Defender and NUFC’s Romeo Lagada was honored as the Best Striker.
In the semis, DLNHS defeated West Negros University-Integrated School (WNU-IS), 1-0 though a goal of Guising on a penalty while NUFC outshone Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC)-Talisay on a shootout, 3-2.
CHMSC, meanwhile, aged the second runner-up crown after a triumph over WNU-IS in a shootout, 3-2.
