WEST Negros University posted another win over arch rival University of St. La Salle, 2-1, Monday in the elimination round of the men’s football competition of the ongoing 14th National University Games (Unigames) at the Central Philippine University field in Iloilo City.
The Wesnecans, reigning Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural & Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) champions, posted goals courtesy of midfielder Mark Ferrer in the 38th minute and Vince Braga in the 80th minute.
The La Sallians, mentored by former national team coach Freddie Lazarito, scored its lone goal courtesy of Paking Dolino.
WNU went on to defeat host CPU yesterday, 6-1, getting goals from Joevin Bedic in the 22nd and 30th, Femar Suganob in the 28th, Gino Palomo in the 53d and Jayme Poderoso in the 82nd and 87th minutes. CPU also bowed to unheralded Dipolog Memorial Christian Center Foundation, 1-4, Monday.
Both USLS and WNU, former titlists in this annual multi-sports gathering of tertiary schools founded in 1996 by former USLS president Brother Rolando R. Dizon, FSC, are missing the services of former nationals Arnie Pasinabo, Jayson Panhay and Floriano Pacilan Jr. (USLS) and Robert Cañedo, Joel Ballo-allo and Joshua Fegidero (WNU).
