THE Philippines-Malaysia Veterans Football Tournament 2009 kicks off Saturday at the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park field with four sides seeing action in this inaugural event.
The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) in partnership with the Executive Village Football Club headed by businessman Rafael Lizares, and co-hosted by Bacolod United Football Club and Real Negrense Football Club organizes the event.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday with simple opening rites followed by the opening match at 8:30 a.m. between Bacolod United FC and Real Negrense FC.
At 9:15 a.m., Erco football Club of Cebu takes on the visiting Malay Mail of Malaysia.
At 10:15 a.m., the participating teams will join in the presentation of jerseys and giving out of balls to local ball clubs coming from the city's public elementary and high schools.
This will be followed by the match between Real Negrense FC and Erco FC of Cebu scheduled at 11 a.m. while at 11:45 a.m., it will be Malay Mail against Bacolod United FC.
The four-team competition resumes on Sunday, Oct. 25, 9:30 a.m., with Real Negrense scheduled to clash against Malay Mail followed by the 10:15 match between BUFC and Erco Cebu FC.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, the participating teams together with tournament organizers will have lunch at the Hinobaan House at Panaad and at 2:30 p.m., it will be the battle for third and fourth places followed by the championship match scheduled at 3:30 p.m.
Organizers led by PFF general secretary Cyril Dofitas and PFF grassroots committee chairman Edward Magallona said the event is just a prelude to bigger things to come starting with next year's 40-above tournament which will again be staged here at the Panaad venue.
