TWO Cebu City teams are moving on to the semifinal round of the second Pintaflores 16-Under National Invitational Tournament after winning their first two matches.
The Abellana National School’s (ANS) and Don Bosco College’s (DBC) Under-16 squads along with two other teams made it to the semifinals of the 12-team field from all over the Philippines.
ANS, the champion of the recently finished Milo Little Olympics national finals, earned a slot in the next round after beating Dumaguete, 5-2, and Ba-colod United, 4-1.On the other hand, DBC’s wins were over Dipolog, 2-0, and Paga-dian, 4-1.
The six teams will be divided into two groups by drawing lots.
The three teams in each group will face each other in a round robin format.
The top two squads of each group will face each other in the finals while the second seeded teams will battle for third place.
All the semifinal games will be played today, while the championship match will be tomorrow.
ANS head coach Francis Ramirez is optimistic a-bout the chances of his squad in winning the tournament.
“We have a huge chance of winning this time because we beat some of the best teams (in the tournament),” Ramirez told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday in an interview.
As of press time yesterday, ANS was playing RP training pool national team, while DBC was facing the powerhouse Iloilo squad in a non-bearing game.
In last year’s Pinta-flores 16-Under National Invitational Tournament, Team Cebu City, which was composed mostly of Paref-Springdale players, finished third.
