THE University of St. La Salle U16 football team Saturday shocked the visiting RP Under-16 selection, 1-0, in their elimination round encounter at the 1st Doc Eric 7-aside Football Festival at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College field in Talisay City.
USLS, mentored by Noah Sajo, went to forward MJ Benedicto to score the lone goal that nipped the national booters who were playing in the event as part of their preparations for the forthcoming Asian U16 Football Championship Group E Qualifier slated October 3-13 here in Bacolod City at the Panaad Sports & Recreational Park pitch in Barangay Mansilingan
But the two-day festival which was staged by the City Government of Talisay under Mayor Eric Saratan in cooperation with the Executive Village Football Club headed by Rafael “Junie” Lizares, proved to be unpredictable as the La Sallians also were shocked by Bacolod City National High School, 1-0, in the succeeding match.
BCNHS, mentored by former national player Joshua Fegidero, scored its lone goal through striker Rayo Fegidero.
The nationals, mentored by Glenn Ramos, had earlier won over a hard-fighting Don Bosco Technical Institute.
