THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) closed its elimination round on a strong note as it crushed University of the Visayas, 4-1, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. football event at the Aboitiz Sports Field yesterday.
USPF’s Adrian Pitogo scored the opening goal in the 30th minute for a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Pitogo found the net anew just 14 minutes into the second half for a 2-0 lead before Joseph Rodriguez made it 3-0.
However, Juvenal Villahermosa finally got UV on the tally with a 65th-minute strike but his effort was futile as Rodriguez added another goal for the victory.
Meanwhile, the University of San Carlos (USC) drew with University of Cebu, 1-1.
UC had an early advantage as Bart Diola scored in the 30th minute. However, USC ace striker Kyle Soriano saved the day as he struck in the 73rd minute.
USPF is scheduled to face USC while defending champions University of San Jose Recoletos will face UV in the semifinals next Sunday.
On the other hand, Don Bosco (DB) Alumni defeated San Roque Royal United, 2-0, in the Mens League of the 12th Aboitiz Football Cup.
