Visayas Selection vs Manila XI Womens U16 in Bacolod in September

THE Philippine Football Federation (PFF) confirmed last weekend that preparations are underway for the holding of a series of competitions between a Visayas Selection and a Manila Selection in Bacolod City in September.
The goodwill matches between the Manila-based lady booters and their Visayas counterparts composed of standouts from Bacolod, San Carlos, Iloilo, Dumaguete and Cebu, among others, will be used by the PFF as a basis for the formation of the national women’s Under-16 team which will represent the country international and regional competitions.

This developed as EVFC president Junie Martin told sports mediamen last Friday during a press conference at the Luxur Hotel that they have challenged the PFF leadership to give equal opportunities for booters who are Manila-based as well as talents from the provinces to showcase their skills whenever the PFF is in the process of forming the composition of the various national teams.

“We’ve always believed that there are enough talents in the provinces, especially in the so-called football region of the Visayas who deserve to be named to the national teams if only they are given the right opportunity to showcase their skills. So, we’ve asked them (PFF) to allow our players (the Visayas Selection) to play against a Manila Selection in September, and whichever team prevails will be given the opportunity to form the women’s national U16 team, and they (PFF) agreed,” said Lizares.

During last Friday’s press conference, PFF president Jose Mari Martinez also lauded the efforts of EVFC in hosting the festival. “We believe there is so much football stakeholders of women’s football in this part of the country can do for the development of the game and the PFF recognizes these efforts as a big boost to the goals of PFF in this regard,” Martinez said. 2014 FIFA World Cup - Asian Qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR: The AFC Competitions Committee has decided to use the present qualification format for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The top five teams from the 2010 FIFA World Cup will be given direct entry into the third round while the remaining 38 teams will play home and away in the opening round. The 11 highest-ranked teams from the second round will be given direct entry into the third round while the lowest eight teams will qualify for Round 2.After playing home-and-away in the second round, four winners will join the top five teams and 11 qualifiers in the third round where they will be divided into five groups of four teams each. The winners and runners of each group will qualify for the final round where the 10 teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each. The group winners and runners-up will make it to the 2014 FIFA World Cup while the third-placed team in each group will play home-and-away for the fifth place.

http://www.the-afc.com/en/inside-afc/676-afc-news/24828-2014-fifa-world-cup-qualifying-format-approved

Comment : Philippines withdrew from the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, hopefully they will NOT do the same for 2014 Qualifiers. This qualification system would mean maybe only two matches for Philippines, they could meet a team like Iran or Iraq in First round, if lucky a much weaker team.

First qualifying matches will probably be in 2011.
