Defending United Football League champion Global FC made a big splash this season after acquiring national team veteran Eduard Sacapaño on loan from Philippine Army.
The move was done ostensibly to shore up the team’s campaign for the Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup, a tournament that imposes limit on the number of foreign players on each team.
But Sacapaño will have to come off the bench for the UFL powerhouse, after the team recruited Ivory Coast national Moussa Sanogo to be its top goalkeeper.
“(Sacapaño) is a good goalkeeper, he’s been with the Azkals,” said Global coach Brian Reid, who described the decision to go with Sanogo as a difficult one.
Reid was all praises for Sacapaño, despite the demotion.
“He is an older keeper, but he has experience to play in that level,” Reid said. “Ed is a very great player. I’ve been working with him very, very hard.”
Global will be the first Philippine team to see action in the President’s Cup, a tournament featuring clubs from emerging football nations in Asia. The squad will go up against Yeedzin FC of Bhutan, Khan Research Laboratories or KRL FC of Pakistan and two-time champion Dordoi Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan in the group stages of the competition.
The President’s Cup is slated from May 8 to May 12 at the Cebu City Sports Center in Cebu.

ReplyDeletesegi ibalik mo yong mga pure pinoy mo para tawanan naman tayo ng ibang bansa press conference palang iniisip na ng kalaban kung ilang goals ang magagawa nila(double digit pa kung minsan) laban sa mga pipitsuging pure pinoy mong playaers....pweeeehhhh ....kung ganon gusto mo please wag nalang nila ilagay bandera ng Pilipinas sa uniform nila nakakahiya.
