AFF U15 - Vietnam 3-1 Philippines

Image

Vietnam vs Philippines
After tripping up against Indonesia in their opening match, Vietnam were determined to get back into contention which meant gunning for full points today. The Filipino players were also seeking some form of redemption after their heavy defeat and put up a strong resistance in the first part of the match including blocking two close-range attempts from striker Cai Van Quy.
Their luck ran out in the 25th minute when a weak clearance landed in the path of Pham Van Phong who scrambled the ball into goal. Soon after the second half resumed, Vietnam extended the lead, through Van Quy in the 47th minute. Two minutes on, Vietnam were in a comfortable position after Van Quy stabbed a rebound into goal.
Vietnam were hungry for more but were denied any further celebrations by the brave heroics of goalkeeper Jan Reven Diolo. He took a few hard hits but picked himself up to battle on. In the dying moments, midfielder Harry James Nunez blasted his team’s only goal of the match.
Vietnam coach Dinh The Nam was happy with the result but not entirely pleased with the team’s performance: “Winning 3-1 was a good result for us, but I was not satisfied with the team. For the next match against Singapore, we must get three points.”
Philippines coach Dorlas Bong Bong Roxy Vestidas saw the positives in his team’s defeat today: “The last game against Timor Leste was our first international together as a team. After that game, we knew the level of competition, we know the intensity of the games outside our country. We had the right mindset and training, and I the players were positive going into this game, and that is the reason why we were able to get a positive performance.”

Ceres shores up roster for ‘three-peat’ bid

By:

Bracing for a tougher title defense, reigning Philippine Football League champion Ceres-Negros shored up its squad by signing Senegalese striker Robert Lopez Mendy and a couple of former collegiate standouts from University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City.
The Busmen also secured the commitment of star striker Bienvenido Marañon for the remainder of the campaign as the Bacolod-based squad guns for a third straight league title.

“There’s a big chance to win a third straight PFL, title so that is my goal,” said Marañon.

Hit by departures of key players in recent weeks, the Busmen were hard pressed to fill up their side that is currently on top of the PFL with 22 points from eight matches.
Curt Dizon was the latest player to leave Ceres, signing for Thai Premier League side Chonburi recently.
Ceres also saw Alvaro Silva, Martin Steuble and Kevin Ingreso sign for Thai clubs in recent weeks.
Star midfielder Stephan Schrock admitted having gotten offers from foreign clubs during the transfer window, but also opted to stay just like Marañon,  the leading scorer in the PFL.

Ceres released Bosnian striker Maher Karic to make way for Mendy, who is no stranger to Philippine football, having played for Kaya Iloilo last season and Green Archers United before.
Mendy, 32, scored a total of 43 goals in all competitions for Kaya in three seasons, before transferring to UITM in Malaysia early this year.
Incidentally, Mendy might make his debut for the Busmen against his former club, Kaya, on Aug. 3.
Former USLS stars Charles Barberan, who can play striker and on the wing, was also added to the Ceres squad along with Tristan Robles, a central midfielder.

U15 BOYS: Timor Leste storm away with seven goals

CHONBURI (27 July 2019) – It was a remarkable start for Timor Leste as they shot to the top of Group A after securing a 7-1 win over the Philippines on the opening day of the AFF Under-15 Championship here today. While Indonesia also won their match today and have as many points, the Timorese took charge of the group thanks to their comfortable margin of victory.
The star of the Timor side was surely their skipper Paulo Freitas who blasted four goals, landing the first after only four minutes. He went on to add his name to the scoresheet again in the 42nd, 55th and 58th minutes.

Timor Leste vs Philippines
After just four minutes, the Timor Leste players were celebrating when Paulo Freitas cracked the opponent’s defence to claim the opening goal. It was the start of what would be a massive win for the Timor players. Their coach Kim Shin Hwan was pleased his team’s performance and declared that he was aiming to be the champions here.
Kim commented: “The performance was good today. They played according to instructions, and we hope to win the next game. There are some areas to work on but we will improve, we want to be the champions.”
After the first goal, Timor added a second from Serafin Brito but Domic D. Tom surprised them with a fine effort just before the break. Timor came on strong and with their better level of fitness dominated the second half.
Paulo had three more goals in the 42nd, 55th and 58th minutes while William Quintas Vong (53rd) and Alexandro Kefi (56th) netted one goal each to put the final score at 7-1.
Philippines coach, Roxy Dorlas felt his team did well in the first half but their fitness made the difference after the break.
“In the first half we were able to keep our compactness and our discipline in our defending. We were not sure what to expect from Timor based on the previous data that we have. Our fitness level was not on the same level as Timor. So, I think fitness was one of the factors for this result.”

All artificial pitch for SEA Games football?

MANILA (26 July 2019) – Will football at the 30th edition of the SEA Games in the Philippines go artificial this year?
From the announcement this week of the Philippines SEA Games organisers, it is sure to go that way as the SEA Games celebrated their 60th year history by shifting from all natural grass to artificial pitch for all football events.
The SEA Games Organisers have announced this week that all matches for the football event – men and women – will be played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila (main pix), Umak (University of Makati) Football Stadium in Makati (above), and Binan Football Stadium in Laguna (below).
All three venues use artificial pitch.
Football competition for the SEA Games has been slated for 25 November 2019 to 10 December 2019.

Azkals coach says team can make history

Philippine coach Scott Cooper has big ambitions for the Azkals even as he vowed to form a team that will “never be bullied” in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers kicking off in September.
Having spent the last year working behind the scenes, Cooper got a front row seat on the Azkals’ runs in the AFF Suzuki Cup and the AFC Asian Cup and believes the squad has more to offer this time in the qualifying tournament for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“If all goes planned, we think we can finish in the Top 2 in the group, we would have to win all our home games and make sure you get something away from home,” said Cooper. “That’s going to be our perspective. We will try to be difficult to play against especially against the big teams in our group.”
The Azkals are bunched with China, Syria, Maldives and Guam in Group A of the qualifying tournament that also stakes spots in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Mendiola deals GAU huge beating

By Ivan Saldajeno

CARMONA--Mendiola posted its biggest win in the PFL, handing Green Archers United a 5-2 rout at the PFF National Training Centre on Wednesday.

Ash Flores' early brace which eventually became a hat trick set the tone for Mendiola's surprise blowout of GAU, a virtual 180-degree turn from their first round meeting, in which GAU pummeled Mendiola.

Flores stunned GAU with back-to-back goals in the seventh and 15th minutes to put Mendiola up, 2-0.

Soul Mdepe drilled one in the 36th minute, while Mar Diano netted his first PFL goal right on his birthday, scoring it in the 45th minute as Mendiola suddenly opened a 4-0 halftime lead.

Flores completed the hat trick with a 54th minute strike, which turned out to be the icing on the cake for Mendiola.

Pao Bugas and Freddy Mbang scored the consolation goals for GAU in the 87th minute and the first minute of stoppage time respectively.

While the result had a little impact in the league as GAU and Mendiola remain fourth and fifth respectively, Mendiola's win would serve as a morale booster for the club ahead of a tough showdown against Kaya Iloilo on Saturday.

Azkals start new journey to World Cup

by Peter Atencio

The Philippines is set to start a new journey to reach the World Cup.

It begins when the Philippine Azkals join the preliminary joint qualification round 2 competitions of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup China 2023
The qualifier is slated this September.
For starters, the Philippines was drawn to Group A and will join the likes of China PR, Syria, Maldives, and Guam.
Officials of the Philippine Football Federation learned of the groupings following a draw held at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last July 17.
The draw put the 40 participating teams into eight groups, and this is based from the FIFA World Rankings for June 2019.
Previously, the Azkals finished third in Group H, and proceeded to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, and they made their debut as one of the 24 participating teams.

There will be teams which will advance to the next stage.

This includes the top teams from each group, and the four best second placed teams, and that’s the final round of the World Cup qualifiers.
From there, the teams that qualify for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 will be known.
The remaining 32 teams will battle it out in the final round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
“The road to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finally begins. To be one of the 32 teams to qualify for the World Cup will bring a tremendous honor to the country,” said PFF president Mariano V. Araneta Jr.

CERES-NEGROS REPELS UNITED FOR 2-0 WIN

Ceres-Negros FC leaned on a steady first half and a heroic second half from Roland Muller to repulse a dangerous Green Archers United 2-0 last July 21 at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
The two squads picked up where they left off in their first meeting where it finished 4-3 in favor of the busmen. The cagey start resulted to an own goal by the Archers in the 7th minute. Freddie Lobe Mband cleared a Stephan Schrock cross into his own net to make it 1-0.
Dylan De Bruycker set up Mike Ott with a through ball in the 15th minute but Henri Bandeken Fong came up with the big save to maintain the scoreline.
OJ Porteria redirected a Schrock cross in the 20th to De Bruycker but the midfielder’s volley went over the bar. He would have a chance moments later after beating a defender but his eventual shot was saved by the keeper.
Green Archers had their best chance in the first half with a free kick towards John Celiz but Muller came off his line to pick the ball away for the United attacker.
Ceres-Negros doubled the advantage in the 28th when Mike Ott unleashed an inch perfect strike from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. The ball hit the inside of the post and in to the delight of a small group of Ceres-Negros fans.
he Archers had the final chance near the end with another free kick from Paolo Bugas but Marvin Angeles’ header was off target. The half would finish with the Busmen having the advantage.
The second half started the same way as the first as both teams looked to score early. Substitute Lucien Okono broke free from the back line before he released to Bugas in front of the goal. The former FEU standout shot well from point blank but Muller was equal to the effort with a critical stop.
Porteria broke through the lines before the hour mark but Bandeken Fong did well to save the scoreline. John Celiz had a golden chance to get a goal back after beating the trap but Muller made another fine save.
The Ceres-Negros keeper would be called into action minutes later from a shot from Angeles but he palmed the ball wide for a corner. It was nine minutes from time when Muller stamped his man of the match performance after blocking a shot from an unmarked James Kim inside the box.
Stephan Shrock had a good chance in the 89th minute to add another for the Busmen but the Archers keeper had other ideas. Charles Ivan Barberan made his debut in injury time to replace Schrock on the pitch
Angelo Marasigan sent a dangerous ball in the box in the final minute but the defense cleared it to safety. The referee blew the final whistle with Ceres-Negros earning its seven straight win an extending their unbeaten run to eight matches.
