ROTA READY TO GO ALL OUT VS TAMPINES

Simone Rota is known to be one of the toughest defenders to ever play for the Philippines. So when he acknowledges his clubs upcoming game as a tough challenge, everyone should take heed. His club Ceres-Negros FC will face Tampines Rovers in a do-or-die match away in Singapore.
“Sure, it will be very hard,” said the veteran player on match against the S.League squad. “Because in our group, every team can pass to the next round. So everybody has to win. We have to play smart, play very strong, and defend strong against Tampines,” Rota added.
The muti-positional defensive player has fully recovered from his ACL operation from last year and is keen to play his first game for his new club. When asked on what is expected from him when is name is called, “(I will give) everything, like before for Stallion. I mean, I am 100 percent fit but you know its a long time that since I played. So maybe my 100 percent may be 20 percent. But i am positive.”
The Bacolod squad needs a win to book its place inthe AFC Cup ASEAN Zone semifinals. Anything less than a win is elimination. With the difficulty of an away game at hand, Rota has faith in their ability to progress. “I believe that we can pass the group. It depends on us. We are a strong team and we showed that we can do that, so everything depends on us.”
The Tampines-Ceres match will be played on May 3 in the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore with the live telecast shown in Fox Sports 3.

YouTube : Training Match - JPV Marikina 1-3 FC Meralco Manila

WATCH: Two scuffles mar Meralco Sparks’ tuneup win over JPV Marikina

MAKATI — With two scuffles in the second half that almost came to blows, the resulting 3-1 scoreline became secondary, as it was an eventful tuneup game between Meralco Sparks and JPV Marikina in Circuit Makati’s Chelsea Blue Pitch that signified that the tension and excitement of the coming season for these two teams are already at its peak as the PFL kicks off in a week’s time.

by Earl Averilla
Meralco won the tuneup game with goals from Milan Nikolic from a corner in the first half, a JPV own goal from a well executed Meralco set-piece, and a brilliant lob by Phil Younghusband in the second half. JPV Marikina got a consolation though from Alexandro Elnar’s header also in the second half.
But what is more notable though are the two events where almost the full lineups of both squads clashed due to the heat of the moment as the game became physical, especially in the second half.
The first instance came shortly after the Sparks registered their third goal of the game. James Younghusband had a scuffle with opposing keeper, Nelson Gasic. Not long after, players from both teams got into the action with shoving and pushing. This was eventually controlled by the referees and the staffs but the two players mentioned were given their respective red cards and their marching orders. Given that this is an unofficial tuneup game, the two were substituted out and replaced to still make it 11 vs 11.

Meralco Manila unveil new signings, enter second stint with Mizuno in time for the PFL

By Kevin Estrada

PASIG -- New signings and a new kit deal. That's how the FC Meralco Manila amped up its preparations for the inaugural Philippines Football League season into higher voltage Wednesday afternoon at the Lighthouse inside the fabled headquarters of the country's largest electric company.

Formerly named as Loyola FC, the Sparks returned to Mizuno as its kit provider after a five-year absence, putting up a much improved deal from the last time they were partners, in which the club will sell the authentic kits and more affordable replicas to its supporters.

"We are thrilled to be back with Meralco for this upcoming season. We are sure that with the help of Mizuno, the Sparks can excel on and off the field," enthused Master Sports' Karla Bello, who signed a memorandum of agreement with the team to be the team's official sportswear supplier on Wednesday.

The club's vice chair Randy Roxas expressed its readiness to compete with the other pioneering PFL sides, opening their season with the Invitational Cup final rematch away at Stallion-Laguna on May 6.

"I am so excited by the team's prospects for the PFL. This is the strongest side we have ever assembled and I believe we can succeed in this first year of the national league," Roxas said, having witnessed its growth from a side loaded with Ateneo alumni to one of the country's best clubs.

Out of the ten new signings, nine of them were revealed to the media while keeping one spot open, with former Global centre-back Milan Nikolic and the returning midfielder Alvin Sarmiento the highlight of the new acquisitions for Aris Caslib.

Defender Tyler Matas and midfielder James Hall were formally introduced as new signings, nearly a year after they were brought in by the team, but did not play a single second due to transfer window limits.

Benilde's Edienzel Velizano, San Beda's Connor Tacagni and Neil Dorimon, Korean midfielder Lee Joong Min and former Pasargad stalwart Jean Delos Reyes completed the cast of new acquisitions that will accompany the Younghusband brothers in their quest for their first silverware since the 2015 Smart-PFF Cup.

"These are young but very experienced players we are bringing in,"
said Caslib, who was the Azkals coach on two occasions. "We know that any of these guys can make an immediate impact on the pitch."

NCR, Central Visayas rule Palarong Pambansa 2017 football

NCR defends the championship title against Western Visayas in secondary football while Central Visayas defeats Western Visayas for the elementary football title

Mars Alison

ANTIQUE, Philippines – The National Capital Regional Athletic Association (NCRAA) is the secondary football champions for the second straight year after dealing host region Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) with a 3-1 beating on Saturday, April 29.
In the elementary football contest, the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) halted a two-year title drought by edging WVRAA, 1-0.
NCR also bagged 5 of the 7 special awards including the Most Valuable Player honors which went to Orlan Joseph Togores while Keith Absalon was given the Golden Boot award and named as the Best Striker as well.
Other NCR booters who were given special awards are Marc Jessar Tobias as Best Defender and Jason Edward Blanco as Best Goalkeeper.
Western Visayas' Geri Martini Rey was named as the Best Midfielder while the Negros Island Regional Athletic Association (NIRAA) went away with the Fair Play award.
NCR scored all of its 3 goals in the first half with Shanden Vergara, a former national junior team member, finding the back of the net twice.
Lipay kay nakagoal ko,” said Vergara. (I'm happy because I scored goals).
Before the finals match started, head coach Bob Salvacion reminded his booters not to be complacent.
'Wag lang maging complacent kasi there were a couple of matches na naging ganyan yong problem namin na we scored early goals, we get confident with the goals and the opponents get back at us.” (Don't be complacent because there were a couple of matches when we had this problem.)
Secondary Football
At the football pitch in the Binirayan Sports Complex, in his usual fashion, Absalon once again opened the scoring for NCR with an early goal in the 8th minute. Absalon received a high pass from Fidel Victor Tacardon and immediately volleyed in a goal that WVRAA’s goalkeeper failed to save.
Just two minutes later, NCR scored its second goal via Vergara who followed through on a failed attempt of Absalon on a pass from Tacardon.
A few minutes before halftime, Vergara once again found the back of the net on an easy goal from the left inside the penalty box.
In the second half, WVRAA employed man to man markings while NCRAA also intensified its defense.
WVRAA avoided a goal shutout courtesy of Johnny Toledo in the 57th minute. However, it proved to be WVRAA’s lone goal of the match as the NCRAA went on to defend its title.
Bronze in the secondary division went to Calabarzon who defeated NIR, 2-1.
Elementary
Over at the St. Anthony’s College, Simon del Campo was able to find a hole in WVRAA’s defense and sealed the title for CVIRAA just five minutes before the end of regulation.
Head coach Glen Ramos had to adjust their game several times and asked his booters to swap roles in a snap as the opponent was not only bigger but also faster.
Del Campo received a pass from Xyrhyle Ybanez who dropped at the center to draw one of the defenders leaving Del Campo to just contend with two defenders whom he beat for his goal.
Del Campo was named MVP for his efforts and was also given the Golden Boot award. He was also named as the Best Striker.
Other CVIRAA booters who came away with special awards were Joseph Kyne Garces as Best Midfielder and Cyril John Christian Calo as Best Goalkeeper. – Rappler.com

Central Visayas boots past Zamboanga to elem football semis

Mars G. Alison

ANTIQUE, Philippines - The Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA), also known as Region 7, has made it to the final 4 of the elementary football competition of the Palarong Pambansa as they seek to regain the title they won in 2014.
Region 7, which is manned mostly by booters from Don Bosco, now gets a chance to grab a finals ticket after streaking past Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA), 4-2.
Ensuring the semi-finals entry for CVIRAA were Simon del Ocampo, Vaughn York Pacaña and Gianrenzo Andres Custado, who followed up on his failed penalty kick when it was tapped fortunately back to him by the ZPRAA’s goalie. The penalty resulted from a handball. The last goal was scored by Francis Raven Palag with 5 minutes left in the match.
The CVIRAA booters will have a tough match on their hands as they will contest for one of the finals tickets against Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association (ARMMAA).
The ARMMAA advanced to the final four round with a 3-0 blanking of Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA).
Fighting for the other finals ticket will be defending champions Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA), which will be facing WVRAA who denied NIR, 2-0, a top 4 slot.
DAVRAA barged into the semifinal round with a 3-1 routing of Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association (SRAA).
The semifinals matches will be held at the St. Anthony’s College.
Secondary Football enters quarterfinals
The secondary football contest, on the other hand, enters the knockout stage Friday, April 28, at the Binirayan Sports Complex.
Up first will be CVIRAA who will face ARMMAA at 6:30 am while the defending champion NCRAA will go up against EVRAA.

Also hoping to advance to the final 4 are SCRAA who will be playing against NIR and WVRAA who will contest the final semifinals ticket against DAVRAA – Rappler.com

Global Cebu hopes to duplicate AFC Cup success in PFL

BY

Global Cebu FC hopes to duplicate its success in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup group stage as it begins a new journey in the Philippines Football League (PFL).
Global is currently on top in Group F of the AFC Cup and is now a win away from clinching a spot in the knockout phase against Cambodia’s Boeung Ket Angkor FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on May 3.
“I’m sure the experience in the AFC Cup will help. The experience that we had there, playing against that kind of competition, will certainly allow the team to be [confident]in any tough competition domestically,” said Global Cebu chief executive Dan Palami.
The Cebu-based club will open its campaign in the PFL with a match against JPV Marikina FC at a still to be determined venue on May 7.
Last season, Global achieved a rare feat in the domestic level clinching two championships in the United Football League (UFL), the country’s former top-flight tournament.
“We want to get an incredible season this year as well, that’s the only option that we are looking at. That is what Global FC is all about,” he said.
But Palami admitted the journey to the PFL top wouldn’t be easy.
“Everybody has totally upgraded their game and the new teams even. I think they will be pulling off some surprise so we better be ready and make sure that Global stays on top after everything has been played,” he said.
Global Cebu will be banking on Azkals stars Misagh Bahadoran, Hikaru Minegeshi, Dennis Villanueva, Amani Aguinaldo and Patrick Deyto as they try to dominate the PFL.
Meanwhile, Palami revealed that their new home ground at the Cebu City Sports Complex is being renovated to host their games later this season.
“We are currently fixing the pitch there. I think we will be playing two home games here [Manila] before we play the rest of the games there. I think its being readied,” said Palami.
Global was previously registered in Tacloban, Leyte as a football association and now decided to choose Cebu, one of football’s hotspots in the Visayas region, for the PFL.
We have a lot of fans there that are waiting for us to really start our games,” he added.

Biantan: Time for PTV4 to step-up for as PFL kicks off

by Jack Biantan

THE government owned PTV 4 has a storied past on covering prestigious sports events such as Olympics, Asian Games and the South East Asian Games. The station also used to cover the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for many years until TV 5 cornered the contract in in 2005. This year, PTV 4 is reportedly covering live the Philippines Football League (PFL) matches every weekend. I have started viewing PTV 4 just recently to check if they actually have advancers or just a few clips to hype the league. Although, I have seen a PTV 4 report on the launching of the PFL at the Shangri-La at The Fort in Taguig last week, all I have seen so far at PTV 4 are their sleepy educational programs and their pro government news. The station has also been busy selling consumer products like Slim Abs. There has been no announcement yet from the listless PR persons of the Philippine Football Federation or from PTV 4 itself. The social media however is now getting crazy and various football fans have started to form their own “Ultra” supporters. PTV 4 would need massive logistics and advertisers to make the coverages successful. As a government owned company, the station has its own budget but I do not think they are willing to consume that budget by covering the PFL. There will be four matches every weekend. The Kaya Football Club (FC)-Makati will defend its home turf at the University of Makati against Ceres FC-Negros, while Stallions-Laguna FC will host FC Meralco-Manila on May 6. The next day, Ilocos United FC will host the Davao Aguilas FC at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay Ilocos Sur, while JPV Marikina plays Global-Cebu FC at the Rizal Memorial stadium. The Marikina City stadium is still undergoing repairs and is sharing the Rizal Memorial with Loyola-Meralco Manila. Hopes are high in the PTV 4 coverage. Local football fans who could not see the matches in person would really love to watch the matches on TV. It is time for PTV 4 to make local football history. (l.biantan@gmail.com)

Stallion Laguna braces for tough battle in PFL

BY

Stallion Laguna FC braces for a tough competition in the inaugural Philippines Football League (PFL) that opens May 6.
The Stallions, who will make their debut in the second game against FC Meralco Manila, have high hopes of getting a breakthrough performance in the tournament.
“To be the champions is our goal. Stallion will always go for the championship. It’s always our goal,” team coowner and head coach Ernest Nierras told The Manila Times.
But he admitted it won’t be easy as the other teams are also bent on capturing the inaugural PFL title.
“They all want to win. None of these teams here want to be second place. Everybody has the ambition to win this. If not, they will not be joining,” Nierras added.
Nierras said high-caliber clubs Ceres Negros FC and Global FC are still the teams to beat this season especially with their strong performance in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.
“Whoever wins the championship or progresses to the continental stage, we will wish them luck. But for now, Global and Ceres are the teams to beat. They set the standard already on how the teams need to perform in the international stage,” he said.
So far, the training is running smoothly for the Stallions according to Nierras.
“Well, honestly, we were happy with the things are currently going. It started unlike the way we wanted to. I remember at the end of last season, I made an announcement that I want to keep the same players but life is life. Things do not happen like the way you plan,” he stated.
The Stallions won the Invitational Cup that they hosted at the Biñan Football Stadium after beating FC Meralco Manila, 2-0, last March.
“My players are winners. They always want to win. Once we step on the pitch and once we wear that jersey, it means that we are ready to play,” Nierras concluded.

Sayang nga eh," De Leon said in a text interview, adding that players of both teams have similar height.
